De Vries Determined To Make Swift Return

Swansea shot-stopper Dorus De Vries has vowed that he will try and get back into the fray as soon as possible after suffering a depressed cheek bone and broken jaw.

27 minutes into the 0-0 draw against QPR on Tuesday evening Martin Rowlands steamed through on goal after a cutting pass from Mikele Leigertwood but caught the Dutchman on the face leaving the former Ado Den Haag man sprawling on the Liberty Stadium pitch and facing a six week enforced lay off on the sidelines.

After going under the knife yesterday the Dutchman took part in light training session in the gym but has astonishingly revelled that he asked Swansea physio Richie Evans if he could continue. His plea's were ignored by Evans and was dully substituted by defender Alan Tate. However the 27 year old holds no grudges against Rowlands after the challenge.

De Vries Spoke on The Official Site:

'I wanted to carry on I knew we didn't have another keeper on the bench and I said to our physio (Richie Evans) that I wanted to stay on. But he said no.He left me and Roberto a letter after the game apologising. He said he felt really sorry and always meant to play the ball. There was no intent there.I have accepted his apology; that's all you can do. As a keeper you've got to be brave and do what you have to do.Now I've just got to stay positive, keep myself fit and get back out there as soon as I can."

Roberto Martinez has admitted that he is on the look out for an experienced keeper to cover for the injured Dutchman.

It was an honest challenge, I thought the Swans fans were a bit harsh on Rowlands, it was 50/50 and honest. I think he was the only player Rangers player who looked bothered!
