Swansea In Race To Sign Keeper

Roberto Martinez has revelled his intentions of bringing in an experienced keeper to cover for injured shot-stopper Dorus De Vries..

Injured after a rash challenge by QPR striker Martin Rowlands the former Ado Den Haag keeper was rushed to Swansea's Morriston Hospital for immediate treatment on a fractured jaw and depressed cheekbones. It leaves Birmingham City's young Polish keeper Artur Krysiak the only recognised senior goalkeeper at the club but Martinez is wary of putting the former York City player under the intense pressure to perform and will be on the hunt for an experienced keeper to shore up his options.

Despite the move to capture an experienced goalkeeper the spainard has refused to rule out the 19 year old should he perform well in training. Visiting De Vries after the fractious game on Tuesday evening Martinez has praised the 27 year old for his attitude and fully expects one of the most vital players in his squad to make good time on his recovery process that will begin in earnest.

Martinez Told The SWEP:

'We are going to bring somebody in. Artur has been working with us for a while and he has a great deal of potential. But he is a young boy and we don't know him well enough to put him under huge pressure by relying on him as our only goalkeeper. We had a balance in that position with the experience of Dorus and the enthusiasm of Artur, and that's something we're looking to keep while Dorus is out.We are looking for someone who has experience of playing at the highest level who can help us in that position in the short term. There are a few options we're working on and we hope to get something done before Southampton, although that does not necessarily mean he'd definitely start. Then it would be question of sharpness and how Artur performs in training.'
'Dorus will be released from hospital today.I went to see him straight after the game and I was delighted by his attitude.Straightaway he was talking about when he would be back and saying he was gutted he would miss training yesterday. The recovery period is seven weeks, but knowing Dorus I expect him to get back quicker than that.Their player came to the dressing room after the game because he wanted to apologise. It just reflects their overall performance. There were six yellow cards and on another night they would definitely have had someone sent off.”
