Martinez: Swans Deserved All Three Points

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez believes that his side deserved all three points against Ipswich at Portman Road this afternoon.

Controversy reigned on 82 minutes when former Celta Vigo striker Pablo Couñago equalised for the Tractor Boys. The Spaniard opened the scoring just minutes before the break to send Jim Magilton's side into the interval in the lead. It took only four minutes for Swansea to hit back when on 49 minutes Dutchman Ferrie Bodde drew the Liberty Stadium side level after unleashing a 12 yard drive past the less than convincing Richard Wright in the home goal.

Twenty minutes later Portman Road was rocking after Jordi Gomez's continued his ascendency in the British game with a sensational shot to put Swansea into a 2-1 lead. However Roberto Martinez's side could not hold out for a well deserved win when Couñago struck 8 minutes from the end of normal time to earn Ipswich a point despite the protestations from the Swansea players that the 29 year old was off-side.

Not disheartened by his sides failure to hold onto the lead Martinez has admitted he will be more than happy if his inexperienced side continue to produce the form seen so far this term and was quick to point out how far Swansea City have come in a short space of time.

Martinez Told The BBC:

'It was a hard-earned point but to come to a tough place like Portman Road and play so well, we deserved all three points. But if we perform the way we did at Ipswich over the next ten games, I'll be happy but the goals we conceded were a little soft.'

'I thought Counago's winner was off-side but if you go away from home and you get a 50-50 decision, it will go to the home side. But to perform well and earn a draw at a tough place like Ipswich, just shows you how far we have come as a football club.' '
