De Vries Opens Contract Extension Talks

Dutch shot-stopper Dorus De Vries has opened talks with a view to extending his deal with Swansea City.

Signed on a free transfer from SPL side Dunfermline Athletic in 2007 after just one season at East End Park , the steely Dutchman moved to South Wales in search of a fresh challenge. Replacing Frenchman Willy Guéret who left the club in acrimonious circumstances, the Beverwijk born keeper has made the no 1 spot his own.

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez had reveled that he wants to keep De Vries at the club for as long as possible and believes that there is more to come from the former Ado Den Hagg player.

Martinez Told SWEP:

'All their situations are important to me.I don't like to leave players not knowing what's happening and I will be reviewing every one in December.I always like to see where the players are prior to the transfer window before the summer when contracts are up. I don't like players not knowing where they will be and I'll sit down with each one of them before January.'

'That doesn't mean they are all going to get new contracts, but we need to discuss what's best for each player and for the club. The idea of the club is obviously to try to keep Dorus for as long as we can.'

'He has been fantastic for us and he is still progressing as a keeper. You don't get too many footballing keepers like Dorus, who can act as an extra player when we're in possession. We have been speaking about a new deal for a while now and, if and when something's done, we will put it out.'

Defenders Matty Collins and Dennis Lawrence, Midfeilder's Kristian O'Leary and Andrea Orlandi are amongst the players looking to secure new deals with the club as their contracts run out at the end of the 2008/09 season.
