Martinez Confident Of Scotland's Fitness

Roberto Martinez says he is confident over Jason Scotland's fitness for Saturday's trip to Ipswich.

The striker has been in international action over the last few days with Trinidad & Tobago, and he could also feature in their game tonight against the Soca Warriors.

Scotland continued from where he left off at the Wolves when he bagged a brace, netting an equaliser for his country in the win against Dominican Republic last week.

Martinez told the Evening Post:

'The last time he went over Jason had 10 days where he did near enough nothing,'

'With the travelling on top of doing nothing, you're going to lose fitness.

'We have been in daily contact with Trinidad & Tobago to try to prevent the same thing happening this time and I'm happy with the way things have gone.

'We can't speak too early because Jason still has a game to play and you can always pick up a knock, but I'm happy that he has been working at the right intensity.

'He will definitely be in better condition this time around because he played 45 minutes of a friendly last Wednesday and then 80 minutes at the weekend.'

'This trip will have been a great boost psychologically for Jason after what happened last time,'

'He is going to be in a great frame of mind, but we will have to assess whether he will be ready to start against Ipswich.

'We will see how Jason feels because we have five games in 14 days and we need to make sure he is ready for the demands.'
