Martinez Backing Allen To Improve With Wrexham

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez told Vital Swansea that he believes that Joe Allen's move to Blue Square Premier outfit Wrexham will be vitally important for the players development..

Making an immediate impact at the Racecourse the 18 year old turned in an excellent performance against York City and Allen's 65th minute opener against the Minstermen saw the North Wales side run out 3-1 winners. Under the guidance of Dean Saunders the Carmarthen born midfielder believes he can develop as a player as he outlined on Wrexham's official site 'He's also got a wealth of experience which hopefully I can tap into during my time at the Racecourse.'

With Allen expected to feature heavily for his new club, Martinez has revelled that he believes that the highly rated youngster needed competitive action. The Spaniard has also declared that the 5ft 6 midfielder has all the hallmarks of a championship player.

Martinez Told Vital Swansea:

'Obviously there are certain challenges as a player that allow you to develop and Chris Jones (on loan to Cambridge United) and Joe Allen have gone past reserve team football and they need competitive football and to do it at that level, he should be an important player.'

'Allen has the perfect opportunity, he was man of the match , and scored a fantastic goal in front of nearly five and a half thousand people and played an important role within the side and that's important .For Joe we all know he is a championship player and if he can help a welsh club on the way it will be a great experience for him.'

Allen will be on international duty tomorrow evening for Wales at Ninian park in the first leg of a crunch first leg against England for a place in the U-21's European Championships in Sweden next year.
