Martinez Hails Awesome Bodde

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez paid special tribute to Ferrie Bodde after last night's 2-0 win away at Preston.

The Dutchman put us in front after 19 minutes with an unbelievable strike from just inside the opponents half. Jordi Gomez put the game beyond any doubt with a penalty 10 minutes from time.

Not many players in the world try their luck from 45-50 yards, especially when the goalkeeper is hardly off his goal-line. He unleashed a superb powerful shot that certainly took the goalkeeper by surprise to fly over him and into the net.

Martinez complimented not only his goal, but his overall performance during the game:

'That was some goal - and I'm sure any supporter here to see it will remember it for a very long time.

'But if anyone can do that type of thing on any given week then it's Ferrie. He's got the talent to try anything and to see that one go in gives you a great feeling.

'I've not seen many players strike a ball as well as he does, whether it's with his right foot or his left, that's the kind of talent we are talking about.

'And although it's ridiculous to make comparisons in football, in terms of technique it's very similar to the way the Brazillian Juninho at Lyon hits the ball. The technique he has makes it so tough for the goalkeeper to read the flight of the ball - but Ferrie's was certainly as good as anything I've seen from him.

'It was an all-round performance from Ferrie that was pleasing - he knew he would be suspended for Saturday and he wanted to grab these 90 minutes and he did that. We all know what type of player he is and when he is enjoying his football like he did here then it can be very special to see.'
