'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martinez Bemoans Swansea's Poor Performance

Roberto Martinez couldn't fault his side's performance enough after a 4-0 thrashing away at Reading.

Steve Coppell's side raced into a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes, as the Swansea defence struggled with the quality of Hunt and Doyle in particular.

Roberto Martinez was obviously hugely disappointed, and said his team's performance was 'horrible', he told Wales Online:

"We went out there too relaxed and just hoping our football would win us the game - but we gave the game away.

"We knew what to expect coming here but we conceded a goal from a first shot on target and two more from the next three and that tells you about the concentration levels.

"Their deliveries from dead balls were Premiership standard but that`s no excuse but those levels weren`t there.

"We created our own problems and we have to know how to sense danger before you start playing your football.

"We got carried away with the hype from Tuesday and if you do that against a team just out of the Premiership then they will hurt you."

"We gave them the points rather than making them work for it and although we came back well after the first half when not many sides will come here get ten corners and hit the crossbar - but you can`t climb such a huge mountain.

"No teams in world football will get away with it.

"We did not do the basics - sometimes you need to put bodies on the line against a a side that plays with the intensity like Reading but we didn`t.

"The reaction in the first half-hour surprised me.

"The performance was horrible in one department and we got punished."

Swansea City will be looking to put things right on Tuesday evening as they travel to Preston, before Wolves are Saturday's visitors to the Liberty Stadium.

it was terrible, the defence haven't got a clue what they're doing.
