One could forgive Swansea City midfielder Leon Britton basking in the glory of the 1-0 win over arch rivals Cardiff City on Tuesday, but the Londoner has a bigger target in mind.
In a man of the match performance by the former West Ham man the midfielder is now out to take the scalp of the Bluebirds once more when the two sides meet in leauge action on the 30th November and on the 4th April when the two sides clash at Ninian Park.
Stressing the importance of keeping a clean sheet, Britton admits that Swansea have been conceding too many goals despite dominating the likes of Derby County, Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday. It is that clean sheet against Cardiff and the confidence that comes with it that the 26 year old hopes that will spur the squad on and move up the championship table.
Britton Told The SWEP
|'I'd heard so much about the derby before Tuesday, about how I wouldn't believe what the atmosphere was like. When it came to it, everything people said to me was true. The atmosphere was electric and the noise was deafening, especially when people started whistling at the end.The volume was making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and I just can't wait for the next derby game to come around. We want to win all three against Cardiff and we can't wait to face them again.'|
'These are the kind of games you want to be involved in.When the crowd are so pumped up and behind you, it gives you that extra boost and you want to do well for them. The players all knew how important the game was for the fans. After the final whistle we huddled together and celebrated a little more than usual because we were delighted to give them the bragging rights until we play Cardiff again. We haven't had enough clean sheets. We have dominated but conceded goals and that's cost us a few points.
'But hopefully we can build on Cardiff in our next few games. We have some tough league fixtures coming up, but we have to try to pick up some points. The Cardiff win should give us a lot of confidence.'
