Martinez: Praises Wonderful Swans After Derby Win

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has praised his players after their 1-0 win over arch rivals Cardiff City at the Liberty Stadium.

In a game fraught with emotion, Swansea secured not only local bragging rights but produced a performance that will have earned a new set of fans as the worlds media looked on. Jordi Gomez's 57th minute free kick made sure that the home side ran out the winners and influential midfielder Stephen McPhail's dismissal after the Irishman picked up his second booking put the game beyond the Bluebirds.

Despite the win Martinez believes that this game will live long in the memories of both sets of supporters and thinks it is a proud day for Welsh football

Martinez Told The BBC:

"I'm very pleased for the fans because we saw what it means and the atmosphere was special. We kept the ball well, we were patient enough and we played the normal way we play and in that respect it's a big difference. This was an important game. It fulfilled all expectations, we know how important it was to get the result. It's pleasing but I said it before, everything we do at Swansea City is for the fans I'm proud of that atmosphere we had at the Liberty Stadium. I'm sure this is going to be remembered for a long, long time. There's been a lot of talk and emotions with the fans (about the derby) and it was a great experience. It is something to be proud of in Welsh football."

Swansea City now turn their attentions to facing Reading on Saturday afternoon.
