Martinez: "Cannot Wait To Experience Derby"

Time is ticking down to one of the most eagerly anticipated games of the season as Swansea face off against arch rivals Cardiff City but Swans manager Roberto Martinez has admitted he cannot wait to experience his first South Wales derby.

For the first time in decades the two biggest clubs in Welsh football go head to head for a place in the 4th round of the Carling Cup and secure all the local bragging rights that go with it. One thing is for certain the passion shown on the pitch is comparable with the great European derbies the Spaniard is hoping that both sides can make this fixture a memorable event, especially with the clash beemed beamed live on television all over the world.

Due to be broadcast in the United Kingdom on Sky Sports the game will bring in a far more global audience with Setanta Sports in the United States also picking up the game , it has all the hallmarks of providing a real shop window for Welsh football.

Martinez Told The WM:

'I can`t wait to experience it because then I can relate it to the other derbies I`ve had a taste of.When I played for Wigan, our derby was with Bolton, but we were never in the same division. Back home there was Barca-Madrid and Barca-Espanyol, although my favourite is Sevilla-Betis.There is a huge rivalry, but to the outside we are the two biggest clubs in Wales.'

"I watched Celtic-Rangers which was unique - but I know our derby can be the best of those for many reasons. We have to make sure it`s an event where both sides can be proud of the football on display. It`s an important cup game, but it is important we look at this hoping to repeat it one day in the Premier League."

Tickets are still on sale for the Carling Cup 3rd round game against Cardiff City on Tuesday night.
