Roberto Martinez believes that Swansea City deserved to secure with a point after playing out a less than convincing 1-1 draw at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon.
It would be Burnley who would go 1-0 up on 59 minutes after Icelandic midfielder Joey Gudjonsson latched onto a Wade Elliot cross to head past Dorus De Vries much to the celebration of the 300 or so traveling fans.
Swansea did not give up on trying to get back on terms and deep into injury time Mark Gower found Angel Rangel in space on the flank.Driving into the box Rangel skipped past the challenges of two defenders to send the ball across the face of goal where Ferrie Bodde made no mistake, coolly putting the ball past an advancing Brian Jensen in the visiting goal to share the spoils.
Despite securing a point Martinez is still not happy with the mistakes being made and has urged his players to learn from them.
Martinez Spoke On the Official Site:
| 'I think the performance deserved a point.Overall it was a scrappy day for us. They stopped us from playing but keeping with the attitude of players when we went 1-0 down they kept playing and believing and the goal was as good as you'd see at this level. We need to learn because we're getting punished too heavily for small things and what we're giving away but overall I'm delighted with the character of the squad needed to come back and get the result. It's important that I've been able to use the squad today" "We have five games in 14 days and it's important as you need to use the whole squad. In terms of the formation we use that's down to the form of the players and depending on what we need that's what is going to be used on the day.But I'm delighted as the boys understand what we need to do, they showed great personality and great awareness; to finish a game with a move and a goal like we saw is for everyone to be very pleased about.' |
