Martinez Backing Scotland To Regain Form
Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has given under fire striker Jason Scotland his full backing and support and has insisted the international break has hampered his star front man.
Scotland has come under fire from a section of the Swansea City faithful for his goal shy start to the season. His winner against Plymouth Argyle just under a month ago marks the Trinidad and Tobago internationals only goal so far this season. This lack of goals has has even led the 29 year old to be upstaged by new boy Gorka Pintado after the Spaniards good start to the season.
Last seasons league one top scorer has in Martinez view not been up to match fitness since his operation to cure a long standing muscle strain. However the charismatic Spaniard has insisted that Scotland has been working hard to regain the swagger and form shown last term but admits it may take a little time for the former Dundee striker to find his feet again.
Martinez told The SWEP:
|"The work Jason put in against Derby probably wasn't as shiny for the fans as it could have been.Sometimes the role he plays is difficult to appreciate, but he worked extremely hard and I know that in terms of sharpness he will get there very soon. You have to remember Jason has just come off the back of what was a disappointing international break."|
He had to travel a lot of hours, he had 10 days of very low intensity training and he didn't play any games. But I was delighted with his role against Derby and I know he will keep growing.'
Swansea City reserves picked up their first points of the new season after a 1-1 draw with Bristol City..
