Swansea must be more ruthless in front of goal , that was the message from defender Ashley Williams.
After dominating the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County the Swans have not been able to capitalize on the host of chances created and have dropped points unnecessarily.Something that the Welsh international is desperate to rectify.
Opening his goal scoring account with the club on Tuesday evening, William's fine headed goal saw Swansea share the points with Derby County. However the former Stockport County is not content with a solitary goal to his name this season and is firmly looking out to add to his tally with a further four goals this season.
Williams told The SWEP:
| "We need to be more ruthless in the final third. We need to be a bit more creative and, when we see a chance, we've got to take it.We were on top against Derby but didn't score and when that happens things get better for the opposition with every minute that goes by.We need to bury teams like that, teams who come here, change formation, play defensively and try to waste time.If we can get ahead early on we will bury teams like that and they will just want to get back on the coach.' 'The top teams share the goals around and every one of us has to be more ruthless. I spoke to Garry Monk and we said it's time for us to step up at set-pieces and take a bit of pressure off the strikers.Jason (Scotland) is up there on his own working hard and if he doesn't score it reflects on him. But we can help him. We need to take our chances at set-pieces and the midfielders and wide players need to score goals as well.' 'I don't get many, and it's nice to get one because I've come close in the last few weeks.I can barely remember my last goal, but that's something I want to change.I would like to contribute five goals or more if I can this season. There were nerves at the start of the season because people hadn't played at this level. But they've gone totally now. We know what this league is about and we know what we can do.Drawing with Derby felt like a loss in the dressing room and that tells you a lot.' |
