'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martinez: 'It Was A Very Good Performance'

Roberto Martinez said he was pleased with his side's performance in the 1-1 draw at home to Derby County last night.

The Swans dominated for large periods of the game but found it difficult to create any clear cut chances in front of goal.

Ashley Williams headed home Jordi Gomez's cross to cancel out Pearson's opener on 63 minutes.

It was a rather frustrating attacking display from the Swans but Martinez seemed to be happy with how we played.

Roy Carroll in the Derby County goal had just the one save to make all game as most of our attempts were long range efforts going wide of the target.

Roberto Martinez told the Official Site:

'I consider that to be a very good performance,'

'It was a Swansea City performance and I'm delighted with the attitude of the players and reaction that we had following the disappointment of the weekend.

'I think the way we played we controlled the game from the first minute until the last, you have to give credit because again we had to accept a very difficult role.

'We had a few clear cut chances, probably not as many as our style of play deserved, and that's an area we need to keep improving, but you get those moments in a football game.

'We hit the post, you get a clear chance at an open goal and then at the other end the only shot on target that they had in the game they score.

'I'm delighted with the reaction of the players, we kept playing the right way and kept growing in the game and I was just delighted with the personality we showed throughout the 90 minutes.'

The Spaniard might have been happy to see us dominate a game with some good passing play at times but playing like we did last night won't win us enough games this season.

A lot of fans are calling for Roberto to change the formation to 4-4-2. 4-5-1 doesn't seem to be working and the changes he makes in the second half of games always seems to benefit us.

I don't know about you Roberto but I felt frustrated for at least 65 mins - what's the point of wasting so much time until switching to 4-4-2 and finally start to play some effective football?
