B>Marcos Painter has become the latest player to sign a new contract with Swansea City that will keep him at the Liberty Stadium until 2010.
Signed on a months loan in November 2006 from Birmingham City as cover for Tom Williams Painter found his feet in the squad quickly and was rewarded for his efforts months later when former manager Kenny Jacket paid £50,000 to secure the permanent transfer of the highly rated defender. Since then Painter has been one of the first names on the team sheet after making the position his own . This season will mark a milestone for the Birmingham born defender with new boy Federico Bessone now set to mount a serious challenge on his starting place Painter could find himself relegated to the bench for the first time in his Swansea City career.
Regardless of the new challenges posed the defender believes that the club are moving in the right direction and is firmly enjoying his football.
Painter Told The WM:
| "We're moving in the right direction and hopefully we can build on the fantastic start we have made to the season.I'm happy at the club, I'm enjoying my football and I feel that it's an exciting time to be a part of Swansea City" |
| "We is clever enough, too, to get on the ball and start the play off, and that makes him a very complete full-back.Marcos is a 100 per cent player who will never pull out of a tackle and sometimes that can mean football accidents. He looks stronger now and is more prepared to deal with the demands of the game." "Marcos has moved into the Championship with no problem at all.We forget how young he is because of the way he plays. He is already a very reliable player who is another in our squad with Premier League potential. His best years are ahead of him and we're delighted that he will be staying with us for the long term. It gives the club a solid look."" |
