Painter Aiming For Top Six Finish

You could forgive Swansea City defender Marcos Painter for setting his own targets for this season but the former Birmingham man has a top 6 finish in mind.

Should Painter's target ring true it would mark a huge stepping stone to the clubs stated aim of reaching the premier league. Whilst many in the national press have talked about Swansea as a club that will be fighting for their very lives to survive in the championship, club officials and playing staff have other ideas. It is that ambition that Painter oozes through ever pour, not content with being the division whipping boys the Irish defender has reveled that Roberto Martinez has talked to them in great depth about the possibility of reaching the play-offs.

It is with this resolve and passion to succeed and the standards of the playing staff increasing that could see Swansea upset all the odds and mount a serious and sustained challenge.

Painter Told The SWEP:

'Confidence is high after our win over Nottingham Forest. I think everyone feels we can definitely cope in this division. But we are not just setting out to cope. We are looking to push on and we are looking to get into the top six if we can.We know that's not going to be an easy task because there are a lot of tough sides in this league.

But the gaffer has talked to us about the play-offs and he wants to go as far as we can.He won't settle for second best on anything and he's pushing us to the limit.'Because the club hasn't been in this league for so long it's an exciting time for everyone,' the former Birmingham man added.I think the fans are enjoying being back at this level with so many big clubs and as players we're relishing the challenge.

You can see every day in training and during the games that every player is pushing himself because he doesn't want to lose his place. The desire of the team to do well is massive. My main aim this season is to stay fit and stay in the side,.I'm confident we're going to have a good season and I want to play my part in the club's success.'

Meanwhile Wales slumped to a 2-1 loss at the Liberty Stadium with Ashley Williams getting a starting spot..

After saturdays performance, i'l be confident of a top 6.

good to see the sights are being set nice and high! i totally agree, we are very capable of making the top six based on our performances so far.

consistency and little injuries and suspensions will be the key.
GThomas
i agree. but goalkeeper aside, we do look as if we have the strength in depth to cope
tubejack
The strength in depth is a lot better than last season. Our second team isn't much worse than our first and we have a lot of players who are more than capable of playing in the first team who are struggling to make it on the bench.
