Martinez Impressed By Pintado's Debut

Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez heaped praise on new Summer signing Gorka Pintado after coming off the bench yesterday to score on his debut.

The £70,000 signing arrived at the Liberty from Grenada CF with a big reputation. He was a fans favourite at his former club, having scored 18 goals last season.

After missing the beginning of the season with a groin injury, he returned yesterday and it didn't take him long to make an impact after coming off the bench.

Along with Gomez, they both added a bit of flair and pace to our attacks. Gorka was linking up well with his team mates and showed some neat touches. The best one though saw him score our third goal. It really was something out of the top draw, converting Mark Gower's cross at the far post with a clever touch from the outside of his foot to direct it past the keeper.

Roberto Martinez was delighted with Pintado's short contribution and of course the goal, he told the Evening Post:

"It`s as good a goal as you see at any level,"

"Other players can do that but they cost five or six million pounds.

"Gorka has already repaid his £70,000 transfer fee.

"He is hungry, he has given up everything to come here and he is desperate to win games for Swansea City. That is a recipe for success.

"It`s very difficult to find a player like him and it was well documented how hard we worked to get him because he was a special player out in Spain."

The fans were also impressed by Pintado's performance and goal yesterday and if the 4-5-1 will continue to be used, Scotland could soon lose his starting place.

''It was a moment of sheer unadulterated class, the balance, the ability to control and direct the ball into the goal was fantastic.

He could even be the no 1 striker if he keeps on banging them in at the rate Scotland did, Jason could find his place shortly under threat.''

Seen the goal this morning, very good strike

superb finish, very much doubt Scotland or Bauza would have tried that in that situation.
