Pardew: " Swansea At Times Embarrassed Us"

Alan Pardew has sensationally declared that Swansea City at times made Charlton Athletic look embarrassed.

The former West Ham United manager saw his side get off to a flyer when on three minutes captain Mark Hundson sent the The Addicks 1-0 up after connecting onto a Jonjo Shelvey corner to fire past the stranded Dorus De Vries. Swansea did mount a comeback with Spaniard Guillem Bauza having the best chance to equalise for the Swans after Marcos Painter's cross. It would be an untimely sending off that would give the home side new belief in stemming the Swansea onslaught when defender Garry Monk was sent off , after his second bookable offence.

Sixteen minutes later the dismissal of the former Southampton man created space for Andy Grey to launch a flying header past De Vries in the Swansea goal to send the home side 2-0 up.Despite the win Pardew believes that experience saw Charlton earn a win. Highlighting midfield stalwart Matt Holland for his vital contribution in the game, the Wimbledon born manager has drawn attention to significant importance of set pieces as a tipping point in the game.

Pardew Told The BBC:

"'We had our set pieces running in the dressing room today because we felt they were that important and we threatened on almost every one. We needed Matt Holland at that stage (when at 1-0 up). He came on and did what he does and his experience got us to the victory. They really passed the ball well and at times they embarrassed us.'

Swansea City have the chance to bounce back against Brentford in the first round of the Carling cup on tuesday.

That's good to hear. I doubt he'd have used the word embarrassed unless he was being serious.

totally agree, he wouldnt say his team were embarrassed if he didnt mean it

its not something you would say about you're own team if it wasn't true, i dont think he's being over generous. we passed the ball around well and dominated the midfield, it was higher up the pitch where we lacked the quality.

we can play the best passing football in the world but we need to put the ball in the back of the net. we tried walking it in last year sometimes, this year we need to try different things and long range shots.

GThomas - you've hit the nail on the head. Weaver spilled two shots in front of our end and I bet he's not the only dodgy keeper in this league. If you can't waltz through the defence have a dip, but the front players must be in and around the six yard area to react to any rebounds. Most of our players have shooting ability but they seem to be scared to . Don't be afraid lads, when in and around the area - leather it !
