Opposition Focus: Sheffield Wednesday

As Roberto Martinez prepares for a tough season ahead in the Coca Cola Championship we will at Vital Swansea turn our attentions to our new opposition. Vital Sheffield Wednesday editor Nick Rigg now gives us the low-down on his clubs chances next term.

1) Name?

Nick Rigg

2) How Long have you been supporting your club?

Since I was a nipper. My family grew up supporting Leeds and they took me to matches. I never supported Leeds, but I went to the Wednesday v Leeds game at Hillsborough and because the away end was sold out we had to sit with the Wednesday fans. I loved it and never looked back! .

3) How Do you rate your chances this season?

It's a tough one. At present, I'd say we're in for a similar ride to last season, just avoiding relegation, though if we can keep players injury free we may be a little higher up, but not pushing for any play-off places. A lot depends on the takeover that's currently going through, we might have to wait until January to spend the cash, though.

4) What do you think of Swansea City can they cause an upset?

To be honest I don't know too much about Swansea, other than them running away with the league last year. Most teams who come up from League One tend to do quite well in the Championship, though Scunthorpe went straight back down so you'll have to be wary. I think you can stay up, just. .

5) Who do you think is your clubs and Swansea's biggest threat?

Your main threat has to be Akpo Sodje. He came from Port Vale and most fans were underwhelmed, but he made a great impression last season before getting injured, and if he avoids injury this season he should bang a few goals in for us. Jason Scotland seemed to be banging them in for you last season so I guess he'll be the one to look out for - a goalscorer is always crucial.

6) What places can you recommend visiting fans go to i.e. pubs, hotels and places to visit?

Sheffield city centre has a fair amount of good bars and restaurants and is pretty much trouble free on match days, though it's about a 10 minute ride on the tram from Hillsborough. I'd avoid Hillsborough Corner altogether, but there are some usual 'away pubs' such as the Railway, and the Red Lion when coming in to Hillsborough from the M1.

Thank you Nick :)

we'll be far better prepared than s****horpe ever were going into this league, we'll play too attractive football to go down plus martinez is well organised so too is the team.
GThomas
I agree GThomas, we're far better prepared than Scunthorpe going into this league.

Looking forward to seeing Sheffield Wed at the vetch. They are one of the "big clubs" in the league.
