Scotland Declares He Is Not Ready To Face Charlton

Jason Scotland has given Roberto Martinez a selection headache ahead of the opening game of the season on Saturday.

The striker has declared he is not fit to face Charlton Athletic despite his best efforts over the past week to get match fit.

Scotland Told The WM:

"I don't think it would be right for me to go in from the start on Saturday because I don't have as much match fitness and sharpness as I would want. But, while I wouldn't be completely ready to go in, I still think I can do a job from the bench. Obviously I want to play, but it would be difficult for me and I've still got a little way to go. I started pre-season late and I'm not quite ready. I'm hoping I can be involved, but obviously it's the manager's decision. I will be pushing and knocking on the door though."

Meanwhile reports from Holland suggest that Dutch trialist Micheal Van Der Heijden has signed a deal with the club.

how is that a selection headache ? surely one less to chose from makes it easier, no need to be loyal to Scotland which i can see happening
cyjax
cyjax it very much so because whilst he is not 100% starting him should be an option with bauza or brandy coming on for him in the second half.
sbrjack
I'd start Bauza against Charlton regardless of whethter Scotland is fit.

Absolutly no way should he be considered if not 100%, just getting him on for 1hr and subbing him is a ridiculous option, coming on from the bench is the only option to someone who knows what they are doing, he is weeks behind the rest of the team in fitness, and he's slow at the best of times

RM likes 2 strikers for away games. First game in and we are already short. It'l have 2 be Brandy and Bauza up front then.
