Roberto Martinez is pleased with Jason Scotland's recovery but will not risk playing the Trinidad and Tobago international if he is not 100% fit.
Scotland is in a race against time to be fully fit come Saturday afternoon when Swansea City will play their first game back in the second tier of British football in 24 years against Charlton Athletic at the Valley. Rectifying a outstanding muscle strain the striker went under the knife in Germany last month and was always in a race to be fit in time for the new season according to Richie Evans the clubs physio.
Scotland has featured in two pre-season friendlies within the last week. Appearing as a substitute late in the second half against West Brom and last night in the 1-0 win over ADO Den Haag, the Morvant born striker has given himself every opportunity to make Roberto Martinez's squad come Saturday. However with Guillem Bauza on fine form, Scotland could find himself relegated to the bench. However the injury to Gorka Pintado could force Martinez to press the striker into action early but has reveled that he will asses the clubs top goal scorer last term more closer to the match.
Martinez Told The SWEP:
| "We need players to be 100 per cent and we won't take any risks. We are delighted with Jason's progress. Nobody expected him to play an hour against Den Haag and we are happy that he came through it well. But it's early days to say whether he will start at Charlton. He has got a chance to be involved but you could see against Den Haag that he wasn't ready for 90 minutes. We will assess him over the next two or three days to see exactly how he is and then a make decision for the weekend." |
