Pennock Pleased With Youth Side's Improvement

Pennock Pleased With Youth Side's Improvement

Swansea City Youth side manager Tony Pennock was pleased with his side's 1-1 draw against Clevedon.

The match followed their disappointing 3-1 defeat against Merthyr on Tuesday 22nd July.

Chad Bond netted a late equaliser after Leighton Burrows gave Clevedon the lead 7 minutes into the second half.

Tony Pennock told the Official Site:

'It was an improvement from our first game against Merthyr, which was also against a senior team, and there were a lot of pluses, a few negatives but it was an improvement,'

'They were only small little points but we show our age sometimes, especially when we're playing against men but it's a good learning experience for all of the players. There were far more pluses than negatives but it's just down to the players to work on them before the season starts.'

'It was quite a physical game and the boys stood up to it which was pleasing,' admitted Pennock.

'We played some really good football and if anything we could have had a couple of penalties aswell. It was a good game for both teams and one that we'll definitely take a lot of benefits out of.'

Pennock also commented goalscorer Chad Bond, the former goalkeeper coach added:

'Chad was the only professional who played, was a big asset to the youngsters and he came out of the game really well. He had the full 90 minutes, his first of pre-season and it was nice for him to get on the scoresheet aswell.'

Swansea City line-up: Rhys Wilson, Dan Alfei (Joe Walsh, 46'), Daniel Sheehan, Steve Berry, Jamie Grimes, Anthony Finselbach, Ben Adelsbury, Lee Lucas, Casey Thomas (Adam Orme, 46'), Chad Bond, Joe Harris (Matthew Wright, 46').

isn't bond too old to be playing for the youth now? at least he's scoring although i can't see him making the grade at senior level.
