Pre season so far for Swansea City's left back Marcos Painter has not been all plain sailing.
Breaking his nose in the 6-0 win over Östersunds FK the defender soldiered on and took part in the pre season mini tournament against Port Talbot Town and Carmarthen Town. He also featured in the second half of the 5-0 win over Neath Athletic last week.
With the signing of Federico Bessone from Espanyol the Irishman's place is by no means secure for next seasons championship campaign. Previously Painter made the position his own and was rarely challenged by the Kevin Austin who left the club this summer for Chesterfield. Not that the increased competition phases the defender and believes that it will keep everyone on their toes and improve the performances on the pitch.
Roberto Martinez and the squad will fly out to Spain this afternoon for a grueling pre season training camp and friendly fixture list. Making the journey to with the rest of the squad Painter thinks that the tour will aid their match fitness in readiness for next season.
Painter Told The Official Site:
| 'I think there is a lot of competition for places this season so it keeps everyone on their toes. There's the prospect of playing against some massive clubs in a great league just one step away from the Premiership. There's all to play for. It's been great,It's been good to get back into it. When your holidays come to an end you just want to get back into the swing of things and get some exercise, get on the ball and do what you enjoy.Sweden was tough having to get up at seven in the morning, now we've got Spain and we have a lot of games out there which is where we'll be looking to work on our match fitness ready for the start of the season.' |
