Martinez In No Rush To Strengthen Squad
Roberto Martinez has hinted that he is in no rush to strengthen his championship squad for next season.
The Liberty Stadium club have already strengthened key positions with the arrival of Albert Serran , Federico Bessone and Ashley Williams shoring up the defence whilst Gorka Pintado , Jordi Gomez round of the current influx of new blood in the Swansea ranks. However with keeper David Knight being released from the club a key priority must be signing a new shot stopper that can mount a serious challenge to Dorus De Vries's position as the clubs no 1 keeper. Swindon Town's Peter Breznovan has been touted as a possible target for Swansea after the Slovakians's agent confirmed there had been interest.
Choosing to focus on the fitness of the players instead of chasing other targets the Spaniard bevies there is a greater degree of competition for places this season but has also admitted that he may have to dip into the loan market with the highly inflated transfer market.
Martinez Told The SWEP:
|'The focus goes on the players that we have here.We are still in the fitness programme and building on that area. There are a couple of areas where I will continue to look to strengthen, but my main focus is in the players we have and making sure everyone is fit and ready to challenge for a place in the team. You are talking about a squad that needs to compete consistently for 10 months. We need to strengthen some positions, but we have until the end of August. What is important is the core of players we have here. There is healthy competition here. With the prices in the current market you do look at loan options "|
Swansea City will fly out to Spain for four pre season friendlies and a pre season training tomorrow.
