Martinez Urges Fans To Back Bodde

Martinez Urges Fans To Back Bodde

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has urged fans to support Ferrie Bodde after signing a new deal at the Liberty Stadium.

Coming under strong criticism for his actions in the past two months , Bodde had lost a great deal of support from the Swansea City faithful over comments that questioned the clubs conduct over transfer negotiations with Derby County. At one point Bodde urged the club "to be fair" and allow him to move to Derby County. Roberto Martinez chose not to fine the Dutchman but severely reprimanded him for his comments made to Sky Sports.

Martinez has expressed his delight in keeping hold of one of the clubs most prized assets. The Spaniard has even gone so far as saying that Bodde has been a victim of modern football and the pressures that can put upon players..

Martinez Spoke On The Official Site:

" fantastic news, It's a great statement and achievement for the club that we can hold on to a £2m-rated player.''Ferrie has been a reality victim of modern football.Ferrie has had words and ideas put into his mouth to upset the situation and force him out of Swansea to create business for themselves. The worst thing is, those outside parties are not even Ferrie's official agent. His own agent has been great with us, but other people get involved to stir things up.''Let's be honest, Ferrie could have earned more money at Derby, so he certainly hasn't taken the money and run"

He's put football before finance. His head is pretty clear now and he wants to play football for SwanseaCity. He wants to develop his own career here and help Swansea push for the Premiership.I hope the fans take that on board. I can understand if the fans have been a bit upset by the whole situation, but judge him by his performances on the pitch We've lost players in the summer to other clubs, but Ferrie has stayed with Swansea. I think that says it all.The fans should give him a huge welcome and appreciate his decision to sign a new deal.''

Swansea City fans will get their first chance to see the new boys in action as they face Neath Athletic tomorrow evening at the Gnoll.

Quote "so he certainly hasn't taken the money and run"!!!!! Yeah right mate but he certainly tried!! he tried, he pushed for that deal and he didn't care who he hurt in the process!! Just Derby wouldn't pay 2m cash so the deal never went through. If Derby came back tomorrow with a 2m cheque it'd go through in 10 mins!!!!

After what has gone on, it will take the performances in the first couple of home games to win the fans over.

I have to hold my hands up and say "sorry Ferrie". I had called for the club to take extreme measures over him in the event of him not moving and having a "Koumas" style sulk. Welcome home prodigal son, as far as I am concerned it's forgiven and now forgotten. Lets try not to be too cynical now and all move on with an united front. At his best he has the ability tobe the best midfielder in the Chamionship so we MUST get behind him, or we are in danger of cutting off our noses to spite our faces. I don't know what news is better, Bodde staying or Marcus Bent saying he was going to sign for Cardiff.......only join Birmingham instead !

Good to see some loyalty, but it does raise the question as to whether his loyalty is just because Derby were the only ones truly interested & willing to stump up some of the cash wanted. (Some) Agents are a disease within football & take advantage accordingly - he will have been told that he's able to walk on water & will earn money beyond his dreams...just so they can earn their cut. Hope he keeps his feet on the ground for you!

Like i said in the other thread, I'm glad that this matter is finally settled. He's a really good footballer so you can see why we (Derby) wanted him and you didn't want to sell him. Derby have gotten a lot of stick for the way things were handled, but I don't think any parties can come out of this with much credit, basically a case of six of one and half a dozen of another. Good luck for the season ahead.

He's got a point, it smells of "Derby didnt pay the £2m, so i'm stuck with swansea". maybe he thought derby were worlds apart from us after their season in the premiership but they're not. he'll be wearing the white shirt next season so we'll support him.
