Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has urged fans to support Ferrie Bodde after signing a new deal at the Liberty Stadium.
Coming under strong criticism for his actions in the past two months , Bodde had lost a great deal of support from the Swansea City faithful over comments that questioned the clubs conduct over transfer negotiations with Derby County. At one point Bodde urged the club "to be fair" and allow him to move to Derby County. Roberto Martinez chose not to fine the Dutchman but severely reprimanded him for his comments made to Sky Sports.
Martinez has expressed his delight in keeping hold of one of the clubs most prized assets. The Spaniard has even gone so far as saying that Bodde has been a victim of modern football and the pressures that can put upon players..
Martinez Spoke On The Official Site:
| " fantastic news, It's a great statement and achievement for the club that we can hold on to a £2m-rated player.''Ferrie has been a reality victim of modern football.Ferrie has had words and ideas put into his mouth to upset the situation and force him out of Swansea to create business for themselves. The worst thing is, those outside parties are not even Ferrie's official agent. His own agent has been great with us, but other people get involved to stir things up.''Let's be honest, Ferrie could have earned more money at Derby, so he certainly hasn't taken the money and run" He's put football before finance. His head is pretty clear now and he wants to play football for SwanseaCity. He wants to develop his own career here and help Swansea push for the Premiership.I hope the fans take that on board. I can understand if the fans have been a bit upset by the whole situation, but judge him by his performances on the pitch We've lost players in the summer to other clubs, but Ferrie has stayed with Swansea. I think that says it all.The fans should give him a huge welcome and appreciate his decision to sign a new deal.'' |
