Southend Dissapointed With Gower Loss

Southend United have expressed their disappointment in losing Mark Gower to Swansea City.

Gower who has signed on a free transfer was out of contract at Roots Hall and was offered a very lucrative two year contract offer but turned down the league one outfit for a move to the Championship. Swansea are thought to have fought off Nottingham Forest and Blackpool who were interested in the former Barnet player.

Shrimpers assistant manager Paul Brush has spoken out at his disappointment of loosing Gower but has hinted the deal on the table from Swansea City was not as lucrative as the deal offered at Southend United. Choosing ambition over money Gower is seen as a ready made replacement for Andy Robinson who left for Leeds United last month.

Brush Spoke on Southend United Official Site.

We made Mark a very, very good offer and we truly would have loved for him to stay here. However, it is refreshing at least that he has chosen ambition over money and you can't stand in his way when that happens. He wanted to play at a higher level and we respect that decision and wish him all the very best for the future. At least we now know where the gaps are in our side now and we will step up the hunt for new signings.A few enquiries have already been made because we thought Mark might leave, so we will now stoke up those irons in the fire.'

Albert Serran and Fede Bessone are expected to be unveiled as Swansea players within the next 24 hours.

He is a decent player, and will do a good job for Swansea City. I can understand the disappointment from the Shrimpers though.

Choosing football ambition over money. Almost unheard of these days. Good luck chappy.
