Southend Midfielder Gower Signs For Swansea

After the disappointment of missing out on signing Paul Anderson Swansea City have received a boost with the expected signing of Mark Gower on a free transfer.

Gower has been a long term target for Swansea manager Roberto Martinez. Starting his career with Tottenham Hotspur before moving on to Motherwell and Barnet in quick succession the midfielder was out of contract at Roots Hall. Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson had offered Gower a fresh contract at the club but a move to the championship was to much of a lure for the ageing midfielder.

Martinez has expressed his delight in signing the Edmonton born player and is thrilled to have signed a player with championship apperance.

Martinez said:

"We are excited to capture a player with Championship experience; a player who has played a very important and successful role at Southend over the last five years. The fact that he`s chosen to join us with the best years of his career ahead of him is extremely pleasing. It shows how far we`ve come as a football club.We all felt, including Mark, he needed a new chapter and challenge in his career and the fans should be excited that they`ll be seeing his talents on display at the Liberty."

After missing out on signing Paul Anderson yesterday Martinez is thought to have switched his attentions to Liverpool's Adam Hammil who spent last season on loan to Southampton.
