Martinez Switches Player Hunt To British Shores

Swans manager Roberto Martinez has hinted that his Spanish raid is almost over as he turns his attentions to British shores to secure players for next season.

In transfers dominated by Spanish talent Martinez will switch focus to Premiership teams to strengthen. So far this summer the club have seen its Iberian contingent swell to six with the impeding signing of Espanyol defender Albert Serran who will join Jordi Gomez and Gorka Pintado as this seasons new "three amigos."

Accompanying the trio to Wales will be Argentinian defender Fede Bessone who is in advanced talks with Swansea City despite the denials from Martinez that the talks have not taken place. Reports confirmed the transfer of the Cordoba born player by Espanyol over the course of the last 48 hours.

Also thought to be on the verge of a move to South Wales is Southend United's out of contract midfielder Mark Gower. Southend manager Steve Tilson had offered the midfielder a new deal at Roots Hall but the lure of signing for a championship club could be too much of a lure for the former Barnet player.

Martinez Told The WM:

'"The players you can sign in June are completely different to the ones you target in July. July has a completely different market, perhaps a more British market. In Europe, if you don`t compete in June, you lose out. But there is always British movement in July because certain managers decide who you can get and who they want to keep once they have started their pre-season.

It is a time to start looking at Premiership players and we have been keeping an eye on a few of them. We've have made enquiries, but you have to do that nowadays. It doesn`t necessarily mean you are signing anyone.I hope to have three more players by the end of this week. If we get them, we are exactly where we wanted to be by the end of June. It is always an important month when you are trying to find players in the European market. But we are right where we wanted to be."

The Squad will return to training today in preparation for next seasons championship campaign

We still need at least 3 more so there is plenty of room in our squad for more Brits. Lets make sure we dont end up paying over the odds for these players from our shores.
