Austin Seals Chesterfield Move

Chesterfield have captured left back Kevin Austin on a free transfer.

Austin who signed for the club back in 2004 from Bristol Rovers was awarded a contract for next seasons campaign but decided to seek a fresh challenge in his career. Chesterfield fought off competition from Cheltenham and Shrewsbury Town to secure the former Leyton Orient man.

Roberto Martinez has praised Austin for his efforts and predicted that the defender will be a success at Saltergate. The Spaniard was also quick to hail the defenders professionalism over the course of his time at the club.

Martinez said:

"He has been a fantastic servant for this club. Although we could have kept him for another year, we felt the least he deserved as a reward for his loyalty, service and effort was the chance of securing himself a two-year deal. He has played a massive role for this football club and been a rock in the dressing room. Kevin is the ultimate professional and I'm sure he has more than two good years left in him at Football League level."

"Everyone at the club would like to thank him for his services and wish him well for the future. I'm sure the fans would go along with that as well. He will certainly a big asset for Chesterfield."

Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson has expressed his delight in signing Austin on a two year deal.

he said

"I am really delighted that Kevin has agreed to join us as he is another player who will bring much-needed experience into the squad. He was highly thought of by Swansea City so I am really pleased they were able to agree to his release."

Gorka Pintado and Jordi Gomez are fully expected to sign for Swansea City within the next week after travelling to South Wales to undergo medicals.
