Roberto Martinez still believes that Dutchman Ferrie Bodde has a future at the club despite the former Ado Den Hagg player submitting a transfer request this week.
Speculation over the future of Swansea's midfield maestro has been growing in momentum over the course of the last two weeks. Relegated premiership outfit Derby County made a bid for the Delft born player of £750,000, but the offer was rejected and the bid deemed as "laughable" by chairman Huw Jenkins.
This has not preveted the Rams from giving up their interest in the player as the Pride Park outfit look nothing but determined to get their man. They now could face stiffer competition for the signature of Bodde with Reading thought to be keen on landing the highly influential midfielder.
Martinez in the last week has indicated that the club will do everything in their power to keep Bodde at the club. However with a possible lucrative deal away from the Liberty Stadium on the cards it could prove to be a losing battle.
Martinez Told The WM:
| "Ferrie has got two years left on his contract. He is a player we want to keep and we are in a position where we don't have to sell. So I don't need to talk about any offers for him. I want him to remain and I believe he will be a big part of Swansea's future. Ferrie is a great professional and, when I saw him in Holland recently, he was happy. I told him he should be aiming to get in Holland's World Cup squad and we can help him with that. The Championship is the next test for him and I'm confident he will be a success. Our priority is to make sure Ferrie is enjoying his football so that we can get the best out of him." |
