Swansea Set To Capture Jordi Gomez On Loan

Roberto Martinez looks set to make his second signing of the summer by capturing midfielder Jordi Gomez on a season long loan from Espanyol B.

Gomez will join former team mate Guillem Bauza at the Liberty Stadium next season just under 24 hours after signing a new contract at the Spanish club that will see the 23 year old stay at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys until June 2011.

Gomez is highly rated by the La liga outfit and this loan represents another step in the players development.

The midfielder has also played alongside the likes of Carles Puyol in a memorial game against Primera División de México side Chivas Guadalajara in 2006.The Barcelona born player believes that the move will be a positive one.

Gomez told www.rcdespanyol.cat:

The loan is positive for me.For me last season was positive because I played in the Primera Liga and I worked with the first team."

Despite confirmation by Espanyol that Gomez will join the Liberty Stadium outfit next season, chairman Huw Jenkins has admitted the deal is not done for the 23 year old.

Jenkins said:

Roberto is currently out in Spain speaking to a number of players. As usual, he is working tirelessly and Gorka and Jordi are both high on his list of targets."

We are in discussions with both players, but I must reiterate that we have not signed either player at present."
