Swansea City manager has confirmed that the club have been tracking Southend United midfielder Mark Gower and Grenada CF striker Gorka Pintado.
It is thought that negotiations have been opened to secure the services of both players but Martinez has confirmed that no bids have been placed at this stage. This despite press reports from Spain claiming the club had bid €100,000 for Pintado.
Since the departure of Andy Robinson to Leeds United a signing a replacement could have been high up on the Spaniards shopping list.
Aptly named Gower has been a pivotal player for Southend United making 48 appearances for the Blues last term and scoring 9 league goals. Out of contract the former Tottenham player could leave Roots Hall on a free transfer but Martinez has outlined the midfielder's qualities on the field of play.
Roberto On Gower:
| "He is one of many but Mark Gower is a player we have been looking at. You only need to look at his record to see what kind of player he is. In a way he is similar to Andy Robinson in terms of his role on the pitch. He can play on both wings, he likes to come inside and link with the strikers and he has 10 goals a season in him. It's early days to say whether he might join Swansea City this summer, but he is somebody we have been following." |
| "We have followed Gorka Pintado and we've seen a lot of him. You don't get many players like him. He is a goalscorer who guarantees you between 15 and 20 goals a season. He is strong, aggressive, he works extremely hard and tactically he's very clever. He leads the line well. We're keeping an eye on him but he has another year on his contract at his club and as yet we haven't bid for him.We will bring in a striker this summer, but I would say there are another five we are looking at apart from him." |
