Martinez Completes First Scouting Mission

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has returned to South Wales following his first European scouting mission this pre-season.

The Spaniard explained to the Evening Post that there is a good Swansea City following in Spain and he has a long list of targets:

'It was the perfect time for us to go to Spain because the league was coming to a conclusion while our season had already ended,'

'It is a good opportunity to catch up with players who we have been monitoring for a long period along with preparing things for the pre-season.

'I have been watching La Liga and Segunda Division games in Spain along with some matches in Holland and Scotland, including Rangers' game with Motherwell.

'We wanted to check on the development of players, which is an ongoing process.

'There will be a lot of names and rumours being floated about.

'I can say that we have looked at a lot of players - it is not possible to go through that list with you because it would take forever.

'But we are carefully monitoring each player's ability and character, because it is important that you have the right personality off the pitch as well as on it.'

'I have spoken to players that want to come to play for Swansea City,'

Like last year, Martinez is hoping to repeat that success by signing more bargains from overseas.

The likes of Ferrie Bodde, Dorus De Vries, Andrea Orlandi, Guillem Bauza and Angel Rangel all joined for small 5-figure fees and proved to be superb signings.

Martinez thinks its the way to go because of the inflated transfer and wage fees in the British market.

I have every faith in RM's scouting. If he can use the same guile to grab us bargains like he did last summer then we'll do pretty well in the championship! He signed a striker who came top of the leagues scorers, a midfielder who clearly has premiership potential, the best right back in the league by a huge margin, and a cracking keeper! I'm really looking forward to seeing what tallent he brings this year!!

He does fill you with confidence. Interesting that he mentions Rangers v Motherwell. Gonna have to look and see who plays for Motherwell.

I think we are going to have a great season next year, and you know that Martinez will make more awesome signings. He is able to find talent in all the right places...and at the best prices. (Bodde... buy of the season easy)
