Monk: My Future Lies With Swansea City

Club captain Garry Monk has declared his long-term future lies with Swansea City.

His contract runs out next year but both Martinez and the player are looking to extend that even further.

The former Southampton defender suffered an injury back in the 2006/2007, missing the most of the season but he returned the following year with impressive form.

He played an vastly important role at the back and helped us maintain an excellent defensive record all year.

Monk is hoping he and the club can come to an agreement over a new contract soon, he told the Evening Post:

'I've said all along that this is the club where I want to be and nothing has changed,'

'I spoke to the gaffer last summer when I signed a one-year deal.

'We both said the contract wasn't ideal, but I understood why the club offered what they did and felt if I could come back strong I'd get my rewards in the end.

'I think I did okay last season and now the gaffer has pulled me and said he wants to reward me with a new contract.

'That's very pleasing for me and, hopefully, we can come to an agreement which is right for me and right for the club.'
