Martinez Proud To Be Swansea City Manager

Roberto Martinez has spoken out at how proud he is to be Swansea City manager.

Not only that, but how proud he is of his squad this season, and he has no doubts that they can step up to the new tougher challenge next season.

Despite winning the League One Championship 2 games ago at home to Yeovil, we still weren't awarded the trophy because of the on-going Leeds points saga - and they weren't awarded any of the 15 points back.

The Swans ended their season with a win away at Brighton to pass the 90 points back, and they finally got the chance to open the champagne and celebrate the Championship with the trophy in hand.

Roberto Martinez told the Official site how special that moment was to him on Saturday:

'This moment is a very special one for me,''

'I've always been proud and privileged to manage Swansea City and I feel very proud watching this team celebrate promotion and the title.

'It would have been fantastic to have got the trophy last week in front of our own fans at the Liberty Stadium. But that didn't happen because of the leeds affair. But that doesn't matter now because the boys can be proud of what they've achieved.

'I couldn't have asked for any more from this group of players. There were nine contenders for player of the year and that says everything about consistency and winning mentality.

'And those qualities don't come by chance, they come by hard work. Everyone has played their part in this success.

'And I think this group can do well in the Championship, when you look at the core of the squad it pleases me. But every squad needs strengthening and over the summer we will have to do that.

'We have to have a competitive enough squad to challenge at a higher level. It's not about being loyal, it's about football making the decisions. We all professionals and we all want to play at the highest levels.

'The players here have achieved something they can be very proud of, but in terms of the future, football will make the decisions, while I will always do the best for Swansea City.

'But, in terms of this group, I have seen a huge improvement over the last 10 or 12 months and they have an average of about 25, so I think they could all be ready for this next challenge.'

Well done to Roberto and all of the squad and staff from everyone here at Vital Swansea and here's to more success!
