Martinez To Brush Sentiment Aside

Sentiment will be pushed out the door this summer as Roberto Martinez looks to build his squad for next seasons championship campaign.

Discussions into contract renewals are on the table this week as the likes of Andy Robinson , Tommy Butler and Dennis Lawrence all out of contract there will be many sleepless nights in the Swansea camp.

It is thought that Martinez will strengthen every line for next season and Martinez told Vital Swansea last month his main aim will be to secure much needed replacements in a much criticized defence.

Under contract players could also move on , but Huw Jenkins has revelled there have been no offers for top goal scorer Jason Scotland. Talks have been ongoing to secure the services of Paul Anderson for another season, but it is likely a decision will not be made until the winger has had discussions with his father, agent and Liverpool officials. Whilst Fabien Brandy`s and Ashley Williams`s future is also less than certain.

What is clear Martinez will make the right footballing decisions to ensure the club`s stay in the Championship is a lengthy one.

Martinez Told The WM

"I couldn`t have asked for any more from this group of players. There were nine contenders for player of the year and that says everything about consistency and winning mentality. And those qualities don`t come by chance, they come by hard work. Everyone has played their part in this success."

And I think this group can do well in the Championship, when you look at the core of the squad it pleases me. But every squad needs strengthening and over the summer we will have to do that. We have to have a competitive enough squad to challenge at a higher level."

It`s not about being loyal; it`s about football making the decisions. We all professionals and we all want to play at the highest levels. The players here have achieved something they can be very proud of, but in terms of the future, football will make the decisions, while I will always do the best for Swansea City."

But, in terms of this group, I have seen a huge improvement over the last 10 or 12 months and they have an average of about 25, so I think they could all be ready for this next challenge."

I do have complete faith in RM, especially after he accepted that our defence has been crap. Sort that out and we can challenge next season.

He's gonna need to get players in for all positions not just defence

If he can keep Anderson on loan for another season then i think we have a nucleus of a very good attacking team. A bit more strength in depth and a better defence. I'll be happy with that!
