Welsh international boss and former Swansea City manager John Toshack has told Roberto Martinez that he will need to get rid of some of his players this season.
Toshack has advised the Spaniard not to become too faithful and keep all his current players for the Championship season next year.
Some of the good are simply not good enough for the higher level and some players will need to move on in the Summer.
During the Glory years in the late 70's and early 80's, Toshack regularly changed his squad each season and signed and released players as they went up the Leagues, realising that some individuals in his squad weren't good enough for the higher level.
I think Martinez has to take this advice on board during pre-season. We'll need better strength in depth next year and some of our back-up players won't provide good enough quality from the bench.
There is maybe a slight worry ahead of next season in that Roberto will be too faithful, keeping most of his squad together and not bringing in enough extra quality to have a good season in the Championship.
John Toshack told BBC Sport:
|'Roberto now has to see another side of the job. There is always a tendency to be faithful to the ones who got you to a higher level.|
'But a percentage of them are not going to be good enough to play at that level.
'Moving up a level, he'll need to fill in areas where they will need improving.'
