Swansea City will round of a promotion season this weekend against seventh placed Brighton, however Roberto Martinez has demanded one last push to round of the season on a winning note.
The Seasiders have narrowly missed out on a place in the play offs but will be looking to sign off their season with a flourish in front of a expected capacity crowd at the Withdean Stadium. Should Swansea win it will reseal the title won on the 19th April against Yeovil Town. Hinging on the arbitrators decision regarding Leeds United`s appeal into their 15 point deduction, if the arbitrator awarded the full points tally back it would put the Yorkshire club within touching distance of the league one title.
Concerned that the players will go into a well deserved break on a high Martinez will be looking for a good performance against a Brighton side preparing for next season.Gulls manager Dean Wilkins has lots of positives to draw on this season but Swansea will be taking no prisoners come Saturday afternoon.
Martinez told the SWEP:
| ''We need to make sure we finish the season on a high. They say in football that you are only as good as your last game as a player and it's true." 'We have had a fantastic campaign, but we don't want the boys to go on their holidays with any mixed feelings in their bodies. We need to work hard this week and make sure we get a good performance at Brighton for ourselves and for the fans." 'And we know that whatever happens with the Leeds tribunal, we will have our destiny in our own hands. If we win, we will finally get the trophy and that's a great position to be in. The away end will be full, and to finish the season lifting a trophy for them would be fantastic." 'And to get over 90 points, which we would do with a result this weekend, would be a great achievement. It will not be easy to do it. Brighton are already building for next season and they showed that with a great win at Bristol Rovers over the weekend.' |
