Swansea City defender Alan Tate has hit out at the football league’s decision not to present the trophy on Saturday.
Due to legal reasons The Football League has sensationally refused to present the league one title to Swansea on Saturday, as a by product of the ongoing arbitration proceedings with Leeds United.
With a final decision by the arbitrator expected just days before the season closes the farcical nature of the appeal is set to roll on. Managers up and down the league have added even more pressure on the arbitrator to come to a firm and quick decision after revealing they would challenge any favourable decision that would hand Leeds United points back.
Leading this charge are Carlisle United boss John Ward and representatives from Doncaster Rovers. Fiercely criticised for their actions the Football League have severely dented their reputation as the governing body of the game.
It is a sentiment that Alan Tate has alluded too, and the stand in captain has not minced his words about the ongoing case that has overshadowed the league this season.
The former Manchester United trainee firmly believes that the title is Swansea City regardless of the ongoing situation but has remained focused on the last two games of the season against Leyton Orient and Brighton And Hove Albion.
Tate told the SWEP:
| “ 'As far as we're concerned, we've won the title. We haven't broken any rules. We haven't gone into administration and tried to get the points taken away when we knew it wouldn't matter. 'But Leeds are trying to get the points back after they broke the rules and we can't do anything about that. It’s a surprise to me that they have even been allowed to appeal, and it's ridiculous that it's still going on when it should have been put to bed at the start of the season.” They should have been given the fine and told that was that, but they probably thought 'we’re Leeds, we'll get away with it’. They’re trying to be the big club they were a few years ago. They are a big club, but they need to realise they are in League One.” It’s embarrassing that it's still dragging on now and if I was a Leeds fan I'd be embarrassed about it.'.” |
