'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lawrence:'Delighted With Promotion'

Swansea City`s towering defender Dennis Lawrence has admitted winning promotion to the Championship is on a par with playing in the World Cup.

Lawrence has been fiercely criticized since arriving from Wrexham in August 2006; despite this the Trinidad and Tobago international has been a core player in the heart of the Swansea defence. Refusing to be drawn over his future at he club Lawrence has been coy about where his future lies.

His position at the club could be under threat by the possible permanent capture of Ashley Williams for a fee believed to be around 350,000. After arriving on loan from league two promotion contenders Stockport County on loan transfer days a few weeks ago, Williams has featured in the last two fixtures against Carlisle United and Gillingham.

Looking back at the season Lawrence is understandably proud of being part of the squad that secured the club promotion to the second tier of British football for the first time in 24 years.

Lawrence maybe sidelined for the title showdown with Yeovil Town on Saturday as he is suffering with an hamstring problem. Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has indicated that the medical staff will asses him over the next couple of days.

Lawrence told the SWEP:

'Getting up to the Championship is right up there with the World Cup."

When you achieve something in football you have to enjoy it, and gaining promotion with Swansea is a massive achievement.

It means a lot to the players, it means a lot to the fans and it means a lot to Swansea as a city. I`m delighted to have been part of the squad that`s got us there and it`s going to be a great memory to look back on for me.'

When I left Wrexham to come here, I came because I could see the club was ambitious and I wanted to be part of the challenge to get promotion to the Championship. Now we`ve done it I`m delighted with the way things have turned out.

It`s a massive achievement and something to be very proud of, because a lot of players don`t achieve anything like this in a whole career. I`ve been lucky enough to be part of the Swansea squad which won promotion to the Championship.

That`s absolutely fantastic, but now we`ve got over the line we need to make sure we go on and win the title as well.'

Swansea City reserves will be in action this evening as they take on Forest Green Rovers.
