Cardiff's Jones Praises Swansea

Cardiff's Jones Praises Swansea

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has praised Roberto Martinez steering arch rivals Swansea City to promotion to the Championship.

Jones's words came after Swansea won over a resolute Gillingham outfit. Dennis Oli's 22nd minute driven goal threatened to put the champagne on ice.

Promotion was secured with a brace of goals from the unlikeliest of sources in Spaniard Guillem Bauza who netted his first league goal since the 3-1 win away to Luton Town on the 12th January. Bauza's double strike handed the club a promotion to the 2nd tier of British football for the first time in 24 years.

Being in the second tier of British football will have its rewards for Swansea City and could potentially secure a Welsh league derby should Cardiff City fail to gain promotion to the Premiership this season.

Jones offering his congratulations to his counterpart , praised Martinez for his work at The Liberty Stadium the Cardiff boss has seen a resurgence in his sides form and hopes Swansea's promotion magic can filter down to Ninian Park.

Jones Spoke To WM

'"Roberto Martinez has done a fantastic job and I am really pleased for everyone associated with Swansea City.'

"Ourselves and Swansea have given our fans something to cheer about and to be proud about this season. I know all about the rivalry between the two clubs as I was down there last week and got some real stick.'

"But Swansea`s promotion is fantastic for football in South Wales. We hope to emulate what they`ve achieved by making it into the play-off spots."

Vital Swansea City would like to offer our congratulations to Roberto Martinez and the Squad for securing promotion to the Championship now for the title please.
