Swans Fined For Havant Altercation

Swansea City have been fined £2000 for their part in failing to control players in the FA Cup 3rd round clash against non leauge side Havant and Waterloville at the Liberty Stadium back in January.

The club did plead guilty to charges brought against them following the altercation but claimed that there were diminishing factors on the pitch that led to the melle.

Events took a nasty turn when Brett Poate lunged in on Andrea Orlandi in what could have been a career ending tackle on the Spaniard. Consequently the injury to his knee became more serious following the southern section semi final to Brighton days later.

Defender Alan Tate saw red for his part in the altercation following the challenge by Poate.

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has been a vocal critic of the performance of 24 year old official Stuart Atwell for his part in the game after concerns were raised over his ability to control games. This was further highlighted earlier in the season as Swansea clashed with Gillingham at the Liberty Stadium on the 2nd November. Atwell dismissed Warren Feeney after a rash challenge to Simon King but came under criticism from many fans and pundits alike.

The Football Association have yet to come to a decision regarding the punishment to be put upon Havant and Waterlooville for their part in the events at the Liberty Stadium.
