Fans Urged To Keep Off Pitch

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has urged fans to stay off the field of play on Saturday should promotion be secured.

The Liberty Stadium club stand on the brink of realising their target of reaching the Championship on Saturday. All that stands in their way is a AFC Bournemouth side struggling to stay in existence following the collapse of a local consortium, that were looking to save the Dean Court club from extinction.

Fans will be listening in for the result at the Galpharm Stadium in Huddersfield as The Terriers look to win over Doncaster Rovers. Huddersfield who have parted company with former manager Andy Ritchie in the build up to the Yorkshire derby could play a big part in Swansea's promotion from League One tomorrow afternoon.

A win for Terriers caretaker manager Gerry Murphy and a win against Bournemouth will secure promotion for Swansea City.

Jubilant scenes will follow the final whistle should The Liberty Stadium club secure promotion but Martinez has urged fans to show retrain in their celebrations.

Attentions have also been drawn to the condition of the Liberty pitch with 2 home games after Saturdays remaining efforts must be secured to protect it from damage that will cost a cool 1 million pounds to repair according to the Spaniard.

Martinez Spoke To The SWEP:

''I'm not taking anything for granted here.If the situation where we clinch promotion arises, I'd love to see a controlled celebration where the players can celebrate properly with the fans.'

'If people run onto the pitch things can end very quickly. The police get involved and I hope we can learn from what happened last time we went up.'

'I understand there will be a lot of emotion if we can win promotion, but if we are controlled I can promise the fans they will get a chance to celebrate together with the players.''The pitch needs to remain in good condition,' said a Swansea spokesman, 'and we don't want to damage it at any time because it could cost the club up to 1million.Anyone who runs onto the pitch risks a three-year ban from all football grounds and they would also be spoiling the occasion for others.

'The players want to do a lap of honour if and when they get promoted, but they will only do it if the fans stay off the pitch.'

Fans have been encouraged to buy their tickets for the game on Saturday to avoid lengthy queues for tickets.

will have a tough time keeping 16,000 off the pitch, and i wouldn't like the future of the club with 16,000 of it's fans banned, lol
cyjax
i don't think many will, especially if they tell us over the p,a that they'll be banned if they do.
GThomas
Fans know the consequences/punishment, maybe the odd 1 or 2 will but I think most are wise to stay in the stands. whats the point if you're going to get banned for 3 years and miss us play the likes of cardiff in the championship?
KevinE
What the point of invading the pitch anyway?
Czech_Jack
It's always been done, and at The Vectch the same laws were in place and the same announcements over the tannoy, and we always went on the pitch, as it does on most lower league grounds
cyjax
Didn't happen end of last season so hopefully same again this year.
welshboy78
why wont the club let us hav some fun
mumblesjack98
Didn't happen last season, cause we didn't win anything
cyjax
mumblesjack, as it says it costs the club a lot of money if the pitch gets damaged plus we may get fined. its in the best interests of the club if we don't invade the pitch.
KevinE
i was only jokeing why would we do anything like that and like u said get a haftey bill in repairs
mumblesjack98
i understand martinez wonze again still has'nt put a foot wrong
mumblesjack98
