Swansea City are on the brink of promotion to the Championship after two of their closest rivals Carlisle United and Doncaster Rovers slip up and in the process hand Swansea promotion on a platter.
In what was dubbed super Tuesday the league's big guns battled it out in the hunt for crucial points to their promotion push.
Title contenders Carlisle United finally succumbed at home to a Nottingham Forest side who have in recent months have been criticised for their lacklustre performances. Defender Luke Chambers gave Forest the lead on 76 minutes after he rose above the Carlisle defence to head past Keiren Westwood in the Cumbrians goal.
Carlisle throwing everything forward in the hunt for an equaliser conceded a second deep into added time when Striker Gareth McCleary drilled his shot past Westwood at the second time of asking.
It brought Carlisle United's unbeaten home run to an end.Swansea were also handed another boost ahead of the visit by Bournmouth on Saturday as Rovers slumped to a 1-0 loss to a Leeds United side pushing for the play offs. Defender Alan Sheehan's 20th minute strike consigned Doncaster to their third loss in 5 games.
Tonight's results put Swansea within one win away from automatic promotion should Doncaster continue their downward trend of results.
The Permutation is simple if Doncaster lose away at The Galpharm Stadium on Saturday and Swansea win at home to AFC Bournmouth, Roberto Martinez's side will secure promotion to the Championship at the Third time of asking. It will be in truth no less than Swansea deserve.
