Williams: 'Best Week Of My Career'

Fresh from earning his first cap for Wales Swansea City's new signing Ashley Williams has declared that this has been the best week of his career.

Mounting speculation surrounding the highly coveted defender has been growing in recent weeks, with numerous club chasing the Tamworth born defender. Williams finally signed on the dotted line as he completed his loan move from league two club Stockport County, who are also pushing hard for promotion.

Swansea City have beat off competition from arch rivals Cardiff City to capture the 23 year old. It is also thought that the loan move could become a permanent one in the summer.

Not surprisingly the defender signed with moments to spare as the transfer deadline loomed large. Williams did have the support of his national manager John Toshack and Stockport County boss Jim Gannon in making the decision to make a loan move to Swansea.

The former Hednesford Town man also declared that Roberto Martinez's brand of management was a huge draw in his decision to chose the Liberty Stadium outfit.

He Spoke to Swansea City's official site.

'This is the best week of my career. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster and I haven't had time to draw breath yet.I had to literally run up the stairs at the stadium to sign the forms in time. I'm so excited about the move and I can't wait to get involved. It's everything I wanted in a move.'

Then when I was out in Luxembourg, I spoke to John Toshack as well. He was all for it and told me to jump at the chance if it came along. He said the gaffer, ground and club were all going in the right direction.'

'I had the same impression from the manager (Jim Gannon) at Stockport. He is a fan of Roberto and only had good words to say about him.If I'm honest, Roberto was the main pull for me. I want to work with a young manager who plays the game the right way.'

'Swansea like to get the ball down and play, which suits my style of play.Obviously with just seven games to go it's going to be exciting times for the club. I'd love to be involved in those final games and help the club clinch promotion to the Championship.'

Williams will go straight into the team to face Hartlepool on Saturday.
