Williams Joins Swansea City On Loan

Swansea City have signed Stockport County's Defender Ashley Williams On Loan for the rest of the season with the possibility of a permanent move following his loan spell

by Neath_Jack
"He looked alright against a very poor luxembourg side, could be a very very good signing for us."
Speculation over the Welsh Internationals future at Edgeley Park had been mounting in recent weeks as clubs chased the highly rated 23 year old.

Earlier this week Chairman Huw Jenkins had confirmed that Williams was a target for the leauge one leaders but kept his cards close to his chest regarding any deal.

Stockport manager Jim Gannon has been speaking about the defenders move with a sense of finality over the former Hednesford Town players time at the Cheshire club.

Gannon spoke on Stockport County's offical site

"I've had to think long and hard about this, but my overall feeling is towards the player.I've had good long conversations with Ashley about where he wants to go and how we can help him get there."

I think he's missed out on a few other opportunities but he's more than ready now for the next level. We're proud of what he's done for this club and we're delighted for him that an opportunity has arisen and that he's been able to take it."

Swansea City Manager Roberto Martinez has expressed his delight of landing Williams , who made his international début yesterday against Luxembourg.

Martinez spoke on the Official site

"I'm delighted to be able to sign a player with such potential as Ashley,''

"It's huge bonus that he is a Welsh centre-half with international recognition."

With Kevin Amankwaah picking up an injury in the reserves this week and Garry Monk and Marcos Painter already out, it was imperative that we gave our players extra competition and cover until the end of the season.''"

Williams will travel with the Squad to Hartlepool as Swansea prepare to face the Victoria Park outfit.
