Swansea In Hunt For Defender

Swansea In Hunt For Defender

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has confirmed that the club are making efforts to sign defensive cover in the final bid to secure promotion with games to spare.

Recently the club have been beset by injury problems with Captain Garry Monk struggling to overcome a back injury. Left Back Marcos Painter has also been sidelined with a re-occurring hamstring injury that will see him miss the next two weeks.

Stockport County's 23 year old captain and highly rated defender Ashley Williams has been a target for the Liberty Stadium outfit but a loan market move for the pacy defender has been ruled out by Jenkins.

Jenkins Told The SWEP

Ashley Williams is one of a number of players we're watching, mainly with a view to strengthening the squad in the summer. The main thing we're doing now is looking at various options to change things round a little bit in the close season and we've spoken to a lot of clubs about players who may or may not be available.'

'But in the short term Roberto is looking to bring someone in before the deadline to cover for injuries, because we currently have two in the back-four.I'd say it's highly unlikely to be Ashley Williams, but we'd like to get someone in.

'Whether we manage that depends on other clubs, because it's not easy to get players out at this time of year when everybody is fighting against relegation or for promotion.'

Swansea City reserves play Exeter City Reserves this evening at Port Talbot's Re/max stadium. Tickets cost £3 each with car parking available.
