Williams Confirms Swansea Interest

Stockport County's 23 year old Welsh defender Ashley Williams has confirmed that Swansea City have expressed an interest in him.

Speculation over Willams's future at Edgeley Park has mounted over recent weeks following a move for the defender by Swansea City's arch rivals Cardiff City.

Williams who has earned his first call up to the full Welsh International team to face Luxembourg at the Stade Josy Barthel tommorow evening is relishing a move to a bigger club.

Declaring that he has no preference over his eventual destination the defender even has given rise to a senario that could see a deal brokered by Thursday. The former Hednesford Town player has however shown loyalty to his manager Jim Gannon despite mounting speculation.

He said

Both Swansea City and Cardiff City have shown an interest and are both massive club.I don`t really have a preference."

I just want to play as hard as I can, and whoever shows an interest, I`ll weigh up the options. It may even be done by Thursday."

I`m happy at Stockport, I am not desperate to leave but I want to play at a higher level. The gaffer (Jim Gannon) understands that, although he wants me to stay."

cant see him picking us over cardiff to be honest.

Can see him picking Martinez over Jones though. ;-)

He is club captain so Stockport will surely fight to keep him.

After all of the press that Cardiff have got about their 24m debt, the fact that we WILL be in the same division as them next season and we play better football and have a better manager he will pick us over Cardiff. Also Tosh will have a word with him when he is training with the Welsh Squad. We play the type of football that Tosh likes playing and playing for us will only help his international career which is what he wants!

Didn't think of it that way jh! plus he'll probably have a better chance of regular football with us.

Fully agree with jack Cardiff dont strike me as a club with a great deal of ambition. Swansea have the better financial position , a excellent and up and coming manager , great stadium , good training facilities and look set to become a championship club.

He didn't do too badly last night for a lad making his debut.
