One could forgive striker Darryl Duffy for forgetting his goal scoring touch on Tuesday as the Scott went close to scoring only his 3rd goal of the season against Bristol Rovers.
Out of of favour in recent weeks the £300,000 signing from Hull City has seen Fabien Brandy and Guillem Bauza leapfrog him in the first team. Reduced to bit part roles in Swansea City's fine cup runs the striker has had barely time to impress manager Roberto Martinez.
His good work in training has not gone unnoticed by the Spanish tactician citing the 24 year old for praise .
Duffy will be hoping his heroic exploits at the tail end of last season that so nearly gave the club a play off spot will be replicated. That spell of form saw the striker net 5 goals in 5 games for the Liberty Stadium outfit.
Given the three match suspension of Fabien Brandy after a two footed lunge at Rovers defender Danny Coles the former Falkirk has the chance to etch his name in the record books in Swansea's already impressive season.
Admitting his confidence has been at a low , reserve games have been the strikers only solace in recent months as he waited on the sidelines for his chance. Firmly out to take his chance Duffy is ready to take full part in the final push for the Championship.
THe Told The Western Mail:
| '"I felt quite sharp despite not playing many games and I want to kick on from here.' 'Hopefully I can have a similar sort of impact to last season. There were about eight or nine games to go when I joined last season and I scored a few goals. There`s about the same amount of games left now and it would be great if the same thing happened again." "I won`t lie, my confidence has been low," he said. "I haven`t started too many games and that`s been really disappointing for me.It`s really difficult to train constantly and know you`re not going to play games at the end of it.' "There are so many words - angry, frustrated, disappointed - to describe that feeling."I`ve been chomping at the bit to play and hopefully I can get a run in the team and a few goals and build that confidence up again." |
